What is Microblading?
who can and cannot get microblading done?
Microblading is a wildly popular beauty service that gives you the most natural looking eyebrows. This is done using small hair like strokes with a tiny blade which deposits pigment into the skin, similar to a tattoo. Because the pigment is only deposited into the first layer of skin, the "tattoo" is semi-permanent and lasts up to 2 years. The only maintenance required are touch ups as per personal preference. This procedure can change the shape of your eyebrows, add fullness, give life to over-plucked brows, fill in spots that are sparse or uneven and cover over scars. You will enjoy waking up with brows that are beautiful while saving yourself time from shaping and filling in your brows.
Not everyone is suited for Microblading Services. For those clients, Ombre or “Powder” brows are a better solution. Ombre powder technique resembles brow tattooing since it involves the application of thousands of tiny dots of pigment, inserted into the skin. However, unlike traditional tattooing, this procedure is done on the epidermis layer of the skin, thus making it less permanent. The result is solid looking brows that look fuller and powdered. It is called ombre because the tail of the brow is always darker than the head. Also, if you choose this procedure, your eyebrows will always look as if you are wearing makeup.
Who is not a good candidate for microblading?
Taking Blood Thinners such as: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Coumadin etc. (within three days before your appointment)
Individuals prone to keloids, super thin skin, Rosacea or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Individuals with transmittable blood disease such as HIV or Hepatitis.
If you’ve had Botox/filler in the brow area.
Individuals undergoing active chemotherapy.
If you have any kind of skin condition near your eyebrows. eczema, shingles, rashes, or anything else near eyebrows.
Individuals with oily skin. Those with very oily skin and large pores are not good candidates for microblading but it is still possible to get procedure done. Those with less oily or combination skin, may consider other techniques. More oily skin tends to push out the pigment a lot faster than an individual with combination or dry skin. This does mean, oily skin does not exclude you, you just may have to get more frequently touchups than someone with dryer skin.
Individuals under 18 years of age
Individuals who are pregnant or nursing.
Individuals with dark pre-existing eyebrow tattoo. we require anyone with a previous eyebrow tattoo to send us an email with a picture of their eyebrows with no makeup on to see if the tattoo is lightened enough to do microblading.
IF ANY of the following apply to your client, they are NOT a candidate for microblading or permanent makeup.
PREGNANT
For the client's safety, and the safety of the client's baby, permanent makeup cannot be performed while pregnant. Not to worry though – after the client gives birth it is totally fine for the client to receive services!
Here’s why - if the client gets an infection from the procedure, it could spread to the baby.
KELOIDS IN EYEBROW AREA
Unfortunately, you cannot perform microblading on people who have any history of keloids in the eyebrow area.
This is because both services introduce tiny cuts, so if the client has a history of keloid scarring it’s very possible the client could have that after microblading. Not to worry – the client may be a candidate for Ombre Powder Brows, which is a beautiful and very natural technique that is safer for people who have a history of keloids. This is because Ombre Powder Brows involve the use of a small machine with one single needle entering the skin at a time and no cutting.
CHEMOTHERAPY
Unfortunately, you cannot perform permanent makeup on anyone who is actively receiving chemotherapy. Not to worry though – in most cases the client can receive permanent makeup BEFORE or AFTER the client's chemotherapy treatment if the client is in good health and the client doc says it’s ok. Don’t be afraid to ask for a doctor's note.
BLOOD THINNERS OR BLEEDING DISORDERS
You cannot perform permanent makeup on anyone who is actively taking blood thinners, or who suffers from a bleeding disorder. This is because the permanent makeup services we provide penetrate and open the skin. In both cases, the client may bleed a lot, which can compromise the clients results and your ability to perform the service. The bleeding makes it difficult for you to see your work, which makes it almost impossible to ensure crisp clean lines and shapes. Bleeding also dilutes the pigment you use, which means any work you can get done through the bleeding will be very light, or in some cases it may not stay at all. It’s more important that you provide an outstanding result for the client than to take the clients' money. Please know that you are not a doctor, so prior to stopping any medication the client needs to consult their doctor and seek their medical opinion.
ACCUTANE USED
Unfortunately, if the client has used Accutane or any similar medications you are unable to perform any permanent makeup service until the client has been off the medication for a year. This is because these medications will change the qualities of the client's skin, leading to increased swelling, bleeding and pain. In addition, the client skin is unlikely to heal well after the procedure. Don’t worry though! You will be there until the client is ready!
BOTOX
Because Botox can affect the position of your clients' eyebrows, you cannot perform any permanent makeup on your client unless it’s been at least 2 weeks since your clients Botox injections. The client can totally get it before the procedure as long as it’s been 2 weeks, and any time after the client's appointment is also fine.
SUNBURNED
You cannot perform permanent makeup on your client while the client has an active sunburn on their face. This is because it would cause extreme sensitivity, bleeding and pain. The client can go ahead and book for at least 2 weeks later to secure their spot on the calendar when it’s safe for the client's skin!
SEVERE ACNE
Unfortunately, if your client has used Accutane or any similar medications You are unable to perform any permanent makeup service until the client has been off the medication for a year. This is because these medications will change the qualities of your client's skin, leading to increased swelling, bleeding and pain. In addition, your client's skin is unlikely to heal well after the procedure. Don’t worry though! You will be here until your client is ready.
RETANOID/
VITAMIN A/
RETIN-A USE
Prior to all permanent makeup appointments you will need your client to stop using these types of products on their forehead, temple, and eye area at least 2 weeks prior to all appointments. This is because these products will change the qualities of your client's skin, leading to increased swelling, bleeding and pain. In addition, your client's skin is unlikely to heal well after the procedure. Don’t worry though! It’s totally fine to return to using them after your clients' brows are healed
AUTO-IMMUNE DISORDERS
You want the best for your clients' brows, and you only want your client to make this investment for themselves if you believe your client will have outstanding results! Sometimes, when your client's health is not at its best it can affect how your client heals and their final results. For this reason, you want to make sure your clients are in good health overall at the time of your appointment. Have the client give you a call if this applies to them so you can chat further about how to best proceed with booking your clients appointment.
People who meet minimum age requirements and have the ability to heal properly from minor wounds can benefit from the liberating benefits of permanent cosmetics. Interest in this service spans the young to the more mature; those who desire a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. It is especially valuable to people who can’t wear traditional cosmetics due to allergies and skin sensitivities; active people who want to look their best for sports activities such as swimming, hiking, biking, tennis, aerobics; and those who don’t want to worry about “sweating off” or reapplying cosmetics.
Permanent Cosmetics also benefits the vision challenged who have difficulty applying their cosmetics; and others with dexterity related conditions such as arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke survivors, and busy people who don’t have time to spend applying and refreshing makeup throughout the day and evening.
In particular people with cataracts, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or those who have suffered from a stroke may find this procedure appealing. It can help them look their best while avoiding the physical challenges of applying makeup.
It can offer an option to those who have allergies to traditional makeup. It also offers a cosmetic solution for patients experiencing certain medical conditions to restore the skin to pigmentation, like after breast surgery or hair loss due to some illnesses.
